4 Daredevil Easter Eggs And What They Mean For Future Seasons

This past weekend, Marvel and Netflix debuted their first project together, Daredevil (you can read our review here). While the show itself plays well as a standalone origin tale for the Man Without Fear, it also cleverly and carefully connects to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which means that there are plenty of Easter eggs, references, and pieces of connective tissue to look out for.

1) Elektra

Elektra

During one of the series’ Columbia University flashback sequences, Foggy Nelson and Matt reminisce about a “smokin'” Greek girl that Matt dated and took a Spanish class with. That Greek ex-girlfriend is none other than iconic femme fatale/assassin, Elektra Natchios.

After the atrocity that was the Elektra solo film starring Jennifer Garner, it’s not surprising that Daredevil‘s writers decided to keep her far away from this new adaptation. However, the slight mention of her existence proves that she’s out there in the MCU somewhere, kicking ass and taking names.

In Frank Miller’s Daredevil: The Man Without Fear, Elektra and Matt meet in college and strike up a relationship. They break up, however, only to later meet up when Elektra appears in Hell’s Kitchen as an assassin working for the Kingpin, who targets Daredevil and Ben Urich. Could a similar story unfold on Netflix?

Elektra’s death and resurrection are cornerstones in the Daredevil mythos and will likely factor heavily into future seasons of the show, especially if the writers begin moving forward with the Hand and Chaste storylines. Elektra is also a member of the Hand (hence the red outfit), so placing her in the middle of a ninja cult war would add a lot of drama to an already-intense storyline.
