Daredevil Showrunner Teases New Project With The Same Cast

Marvel fans were crushed when Netflix announced late last year that they were cancelling Daredevil after just three seasons. Arguably the most popular of the streaming service's collaborations with Marvel Televsion, the Hornhead's show was particularly beloved for its talented cast - including Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Hensen and, of course, Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk.

Unfortunately, the attempts to get Netflix to change their minds about the series’ future since then have come to naught, and from what we’ve heard about the strained relationship between Netflix and Marvel behind the scenes and the complicated contractual factors, it seems unlikely that Daredevil will get renewed. At least showrunner Erik Oleson’s making the best of a sad situation though and is now teasing that he’s working on a new project which should excite fans.

One user on Twitter asked Oleson if, in the absence of a Daredevil season 4, he could create a brand new series – perhaps an anthology show – and unite the same cast. It’s a cool idea, and it seems that Oleson might’ve already thought of it, as in response to the tweet, the writer/producer replied: “Are you reading my mind? #workingonit.”

Looking back over Oleson’s Twitter, you can see the changing fate of the superhero show. Around Thanksgiving 2018, the showrunner excitedly tweeted that he’d just pitched season 4 to Netflix, clearly expecting some good news to come from the meeting. Fast forward a few weeks later, however, and Oleson was tweeting about his sadness that Daredevil had been cancelled.

Despite the fourth season not happening, we don’t yet know what the writers had planned for Matt Murdock and his friends (and enemies) in the abandoned run. EP Sam Ernst has lamented, though, that there were would’ve been some awesome things to come that fans would’ve gone crazy over. Perhaps in time the details of what could’ve been will emerge, but until then, we’ll just have to keep re-watching the first three superb seasons of Daredevil.
