Buffy The Vampire Slayer alum and Bones star David Boreanaz has taken to his Twitter account to express interest in playing a cowboy on the hit PBS show, Downton Abbey. But not any cowboy, an American one that can “shakes things up.”

The second season of this Masterpiece Classic has brought the show out of relative obscurity and right into the eyes of celebrities like Boreanaz. Boreanaz sent out two Tweets over the weekend campaigning for a chance at the role.

“‘Downton Abbey‘, Masterpiece Classic. Great series great Production value. Support PBS.”

“I’d like to be that American cowboy who shakes things up at Downton Abbey. I’m open for a visit Mr Fellowes. #ITV @masterpiececbs.”

In the second tweet Boreanaz is making reference to a scene in the Season 2 finale and directs it at Julian Fellowes, executive producer of the acclaimed show.

Although the show currently features an ensemble cast of British actors, Boreanaz has proven that he can play a period mister during his stint on Buffy, and later on Angel. Fans of either of those series will remember him donning costumes for flashblacks on a semi-regular basis. That must have been the curse of a vampire with a soul, long lasting memories!

Season 3 of Downton Abbey will beging filming this spring for its September UK premiere, but fans in the US will have to wait until 2013 to catch up!
