It Follows Director David Robert Mitchell To Develop Crime Series Mr. Postman

Whether It Follows is granted a sequel or it's decided that the terror should end there, the film's visionary creator David Robert Mitchell is moving forward into new pastures. Per Deadline, the director has signed on to develop a show for Universal Cable Productions and Benderspink called Mr. Postman. Described with broad strokes as a crime series, the brief logline suggests it may share more than a passing resemblance (i.e. we're already terrified) to his previous outing.

Whether It Follows is granted a sequel or it’s decided that the terror should end there, the film’s visionary creator David Robert Mitchell is moving forward into new pastures. Per Deadline, the director has signed on to develop a show for Universal Cable Productions and Benderspink called Mr. Postman. Described with broad strokes as a crime series, the brief logline suggests it may share more than a passing resemblance (i.e. we’re already a bit unnerved) to his previous outing.

“It follows a mailman who investigates the dark mysteries within his all-American town after a horrific event occurs on his own street.”

In terms of behind the camera duties, Mitchell will write and executive produce along with Benderspink’s Chris Bender, JC Spink and Jake Weiner. There’s no word on whether the writer-producer will do triple duty and also direct, but one thing’s for certain, and that’s that this this union of talent and backing has surfaced at the perfect time for all parties.

Mitchell’s indie horror has garnered solid praise and a healthy sum at the box office, and as of late, UCP and Benderspink are eager to branch out into that specific genre. Earlier in the week the production arm secured a first-look deal with Wes Craven on top of previous deals to develop Five Ghosts over at SyFy and the comic book adaptation of Jim Starlin’s Dreadstar.

We’ll keep you posted when any developments arise on Mr. Postman, but until then be sure to let us know your thoughts on Mitchell’s next foray in the comments below!
