Ryan Reynolds second chance Green Lantern

DC fans pitch a beloved MCU star wasted in a single cameo as the perfect pick for James Gunn’s Green Lantern

One more Marvel vet Gunn should bring with him into the DCU.

At long last, the Green Lantern Corps are finally about to defeat their greatest enemy. No, not Sinestro, but Ryan Reynolds. For well over a decade at this point, the specter of 2011’s terrible Green Lantern movie has plagued the Emerald Knights, preventing any kind of reboot from getting off the ground, but thanks to James Gunn and his plans for DC Chapter One: Gods & Monsters, the franchise is getting a new lease of life in the form of the upcoming Lanterns TV series.

So whoever takes on the role of Hal Jordan, who’ll be co-leading the show alongside fellow fan-favorite John Stewart, needs to be someone special in order to wipe away all memory of the Deadpool star’s dire turn as the hero. The answer for who deserves to land the gig may just reside in the MCU, in the form of a beloved actor who blew our minds with a recent cameo appearance but sadly looks to be being ditched for the future. That’s right, what about John Krasinski as our new Hal Jordan?

This intriguing casting choice was fielded by the folks of the r/DC_Cinematic subreddit, and it’s certainly a tempting pick. Although we’ve yet to get any update on the cast of 2025’s Fantastic Four reboot, it’s looking likely that Krasinski will not be brought back as Mr. Fantastic, despite his cameo as Earth-838’s Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness bringing a long-awaited dream to life. In lieu of a leading role in the Marvel universe, then, why not have him hop over to DC?

Gunn already hired a bunch of fellow MCU alumni in The Suicide Squad, and he’s bound to do so again in his shiny new DCU, so Krasinski joining the Green Lanterns might actually be less far-fetched than him boarding Fantastic Four.
