The deluge of DC-related TV series shows no sign of letting up, and later this year, Syfy’s prequel drama Krypton will be the latest to enter the fray.

From The Flash to Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow to Vixen, the roster of DC shows currently populating the small screen is a crowded one, but Krypton takes one giant leap beyond the Arrowverse to focus on Seg-El, the mythic grandfather to the Man of Steel. Produced by scribe David Goyer (The Dark Knight, Man of Steel), Syfy is still holding fire on an official series order for Krypton, and it’s worth noting that the teaser above is merely an extended promo for the fantastical pilot episode.

The illustrious House of El has fallen on hard times, it seems – ostracized and shamed, the DC prequel series will follow Seg-El as he “fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos.” Kryptonian society is in a state of disarray, there are sweeping shots of a scorched planet and, following the apparent execution of a close family member, our protagonist sets off in search of the fabled Fortress.

Newcomer Cameron Cuffe will take point as the Man of Steel’s old, old man, headlining a cast comprised of Georgina Campbell (Lyta Zod), Ian McElhinney (Val-El), Elliot Cowan (Daron-Vex), Ann Ogbomo (Alura Zod), Rasmus Hardiker (Kem), Wallis Day (Nyssa-Vex) and, finally, Aaron Pierre as Dev-Em.

Krypton is on target for a fall premiere via Syfy. We’ll keep you posted if and when the network nails down a specific due date but for the time being, you can share your knee-jerk reactions to this mythic trailer via the comments section below.
