Deadpool Creator Says The Script For The Cancelled Show Was Brilliant

Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld says the script for Donald Glover's cancelled FX show featuring the Merc with a Mouth was brilliant.

Flanked by Cable (Josh Brolin) and Domino (Zazie Beetz), the Merc With a Mouth is currently whipping up a storm at the box office, with Deadpool 2 continuing to perform well as it’s now at $708.7 million worldwide.

Buoyed by the gigantic success of its predecessor – $783 million for a movie that was initially written off as a creative risk is certainly nothing to scoff at – there’s a real air of excitement swirling around Fox’s franchise at the moment, and the fact that the Merc is arguably one of the most popular comic book characters in the world right now paved the way for a standalone animated TV series over at FX.

Headed up by Donald Glover (Spider-Man: Homecoming), the adult-oriented show was first announced in May of 2017, back when the network was riding high after Legion‘s warm reception. Almost a year later, however, FX revealed that unfortunately, they’d cancelled the project before it even got the chance to get off the ground.

Understandably, fans were left reeling after the announcement and so too was creator Rob Liefeld. Talking to Variety at the Ant-Man and the Wasp premiere, he revealed that the script for the show was “brilliant” and he’s mourning the loss of the series, as he was really excited to see it come to fruition. Unfortunately, he wasn’t at liberty to say anything more, but it’s pretty clear that Glover had something special on his hands.

Thankfully, though, it’s not all bad news. While we don’t yet know if we’ll ever get a chance to see the planned show, the future certainly looks bright for Deadpool. With an X-Force movie on the horizon and a potential threequel for Ryan Reynolds’ Merc With a Mouth sounding likely, too, there’s much to get excited about and fans can rest easy knowing that Wade Wilson isn’t going anywhere.
