Tonight’s season 7 finale doesn’t actually mark the end for Arrow, as The CW has ordered one more – shortened – run of the DC series. However, it does mark the end of the line for Emily Bett Rickards as Felicity Smoak. The actress, who’s been with Arrow since its first season, revealed that she was exiting the Arrowverse this season back in March. Now the time has come for fans to say goodbye to the character and Rickards has shared an emotional photo on Instagram.
To mark the airing of the seventh season finale, “You Have Saved This City,” her last episode, Rickards posted a snap of herself, Stephen Amell and David Ramsey, along with a caption describing them as “OTA” – Original Team Arrow. The star also said that she hoped fans enjoyed the season closer, which showrunner Beth Schwartz has said will have all the scope of a series finale.
Schwartz has also promised that the final 10 minutes of this episode will leave fans in tears. As emotional as things will apparently get, at least we know that Felicity survives the end of season 7. The flash-forwards that have run through this year’s episodes have depicted her in the future, interacting with her grown-up daughter Mia Smoak (Katherine McNamara). This leaves the door open for Rickards to return in a guest spot in season 8, but nothing’s been confirmed as yet.
The brief synopsis for “You Have Saved This City” teases one big family bust-up between Oliver Queen and his half-sister Emiko Queen – a battle that’ll result in a few old faces returning as well as the direst of dangers.
“The battle between Oliver and Emiko comes to a boiling point which brings back some familiar faces and leaves others in dire jeopardy.”
Be sure to say farewell to Felicity Smoak by catching tonight’s Arrow season finale on The CW.
