EW Debuts First Photos Of Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Supernatural Return

Before he was Negan on The Walking Dead, he was John Winchester, father of Sam and Dean and generally one of the greatest hunters in all the land.

We are, of course, referring to Jeffrey Dean Morgan, former Supernatural fan-favorite, who’s all set to return to the family business – which is something that the show’s devoted fanbase has been calling for for some time now. News of Morgan’s long-rumored comeback broke late last year, when the network and series showrunner Andrew Dabb revealed that the return of John Winchester will go down on February 7th.

As fans will surely know, that’s also when the big 300th episode will air, and to get folks even more excited, Entertainment Weekly has now debuted the first photos of JDM’s big return. Seen in the gallery down below, there’s nothing too spoiler-y here, but it’s great to see the actor back with his Supernatural family and with any luck, we’ll get a promo for the installment sooner rather than later.

Amid news of Morgan’s return last month, here’s what former showrunner and frequent writer Eric Kripke had to share about it.

We’re incredibly excited to have Jeffrey back for this milestone episode, and think fans will love what we have planned for his character… and a few other surprise guest stars.

From the sound of things, the actor had a great time on set as well with co-stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, saying the following in a recent interview:

“So 14 years ago I played the father of Sam and Dean on that show, the two boys… so yeah, to go back and be able to do that with them was a blast, super cool.”

Before we get to the return of John Winchester though, there are still a few more episodes to go and up first is the midseason premiere, “Nihilism,” the plot summary for which can be seen below:

Michael has re-taken control of Dean (Jensen Ackles) as his army of monsters continues to move in on our heroes. Sam (Jared Padalecki) devises a plan to try and reach Dean and stop Michael before anyone else has to die.

You can catch that one on Thursday, January 17th on The CW, before Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Supernatural return goes down next month, on February 7th.
