As the second most expensive show in TV history (just behind Game of Thrones), Marco Polo is Netflix’s latest original series venture, and Harvey Weinstein’s first foray into television. The mega producer has classified the stylish action epic as a ten hour movie, and after watching the first few episodes, it’s easy to see why.
Marco Polo centers on the famed explorer as he ventures through Kublai Khan’s court in 13th Century China. Billed as an “epic adventure,” the first season sees the titular protagonist travel the exotic Silk Road, where he finds a world of “greed, betrayal and sexual intrigue.”
At a recent press day for the new series, which was held in NYC, we had the chance to sit down with the cast to discuss what it was like to venture into the past, why Marco Polo will appeal to audiences around the globe and how television has evolved over the years.
Check it out in the video above and be sure to catch Marco Polo on Netflix.
