Fans of Fear the Walking Dead won’t have to wait much longer for the eighth season, as cinematographer David Rush Morrison recently shared a bittersweet production update.
For a spin-off series that nobody asked for, Fear has done well to make it as far as it has. The show started out strong, with the series premiere boasting an impressive 10 million viewers. However, by the latest season, interest had dropped drastically, with the average viewership being below one million per episode. The show is also rated lower on IMDb, (6.8) than its flagship sister series, The Walking Dead (8.1).
With numbers like that, it makes sense to bring the story to a close. Whilst it’s sad for those of us who stuck with the show, at least it wasn’t unceremoniously canceled, which it would have been by now if a certain streaming platform had been involved. The creative team behind it has been giving time to tie up loose ends and give the audience a satisfying finale.
The comments accompanying David’s post expressed appreciation for being able to experience the show, whilst mourning the fact that it has to end. Even executive producer Michael Satrazemis, who directed many of the best episodes, commented with a heartwarming message.
Although it might be the end of Fear, it’s not the end of the Walking Dead universe. AMC has already announced three spin-off shows from the main series, these include Dead City, Daryl Dixon and Rick and Michonne. It’s likely that some characters from Fear could even appear in these shows. Either way, The Walking Dead isn’t going anywhere for a long time.
