Brenton Thwaites is a long, long way from the troubled waters of Dead Men Tell No Tales.
The Aussie actor has been tapped to headline Titans, Warner’s live-action TV series that’s poised to jump-start the DC Universe later this year – not unlike how Venom is expected to launch Sony’s own Marvel universe come October.
He’ll play the role of Dick Grayson (AKA Robin), and with San Diego Comic-Con now underway, Warner Bros. has pumped out the first full trailer for the gritty, violent and badass-looking show. Focusing mostly on Robin and Raven, from what we see here, the series promises to be a much more mature take on the property, with plenty of brutal action and a very dark and serious tone. At one point, Robin even drops an F-bomb, saying “F**k Batman.” In short, it looks absolutely awesome and a far, far cry from the upcoming Teen Titans Go! To the Movies.
Of course, plot details still remain thin on the ground, but one thing we do know at the moment is that Titans, a series in which Thwaites and co. will be playing young vigilantes, is slated for a fall premiere, at which point the dark and brooding DC show will launch that aforementioned streaming platform from Warner Bros. which will, through time, make way for Swamp Thing, Doom Patrol and an adult-oriented series involving Harley Quinn.
For Titans, though, Thwaites will be sharing the screen with a host of up-and-coming talent, including Anna Diop as Starfire, Ryan Potter as Beast Boy, Teagan Croft as Raven and Alan Ritchson as Hawk. Fall 2018 is the current target.
