The Flash May Be Getting Its Own Felicity Smoak Next Season

If you thought The Flash was already chock-full of lovable, fast-talking nerds, think again, because the show may be getting its own version of Felicity Smoak next season. According to TV Line, casting has begun for a new love interest for Barry Allen, who sounds a lot like Oliver’s I.T. expert-turned-vigilante hacker-turned-lover.

The character is named Wendy and is described as a “spunky, fun and funny” cop for the Central City Police Department, who is “bright and scientific-minded… More specifically, think ‘Felicity Smoak’ from Arrow.

The Felicity/Wendy comparison is a bit troubling, as many (including myself) feel that the contrived pairing of Oliver and Felicity had terrible ramifications on the series. Felicity has always been a great fit for Barry though, so perhaps a similar character could work better in The Flash than on Arrow.

This also calls the burgeoning (and destined) Barry/Iris relationship into question. Wendy is set to make her debut in the second episode of season two and will likely strike up a relationship (or at least attraction) with Barry pretty quickly. That’s probably for the best, as it’s probably too soon for Iris to start swooning over Barry. You know, since her fiance just killed himself in order to ensure that Eobard Thawne gets wiped from existence and all…

Tell us, do you think The Flash could handle a love interest similar to Felicity Smoak? Or is the series doomed to suffer the same contrived fate that plagued Arrow‘s third season? Leave us your thoughts in the comments below.

The Flash will speed its way back onto our television screens this fall on the CW.
