Aside from being treated to a nifty Cheetah teaser last night, The Flash shocked us all by doing the unthinkable – killing off Iris West, the series’ female lead and longtime lover of the Scarlet Speedster in the comics. I mean, the entire season had been building to this and Team Flash did all they could to avert it, but did any of us really think the producers would actually pull the trigger? Don’t raise your hands all at once.
As we were saying, Savitar actually succeeded in impaling Iris in the closing moments of “Infantino Street,” which came as double the surprise because you’d think that something such as this would be saved for the season finale. It makes us question just what’s going to happen next week.
Well, it’s kind of hard to say for certain at the moment, as the network is holding its cards pretty close to its vest. Heck, not even the extended trailer embedded at the top gives away much and, need we remind you, the official synopsis reveals even less:
SEASON FINALE – With nothing left to lose, Barry (Grant Gustin) takes on Savitar in an epic conclusion to season three. David McWhirter directed the episode written by Aaron Helbing & Todd Helbing (#323). Original airdate 5/23/2017.
Seeing as how Barry Allen has become infamous for screwing with the timeline, we aren’t willing to rule out the possibility of him finding a way to bring her back. But remembering how the final minutes were executed last night, with our hero’s failure being intercut with a touching video message from Iris, it looks like this bold decision may prove permanent.
The Flash airs on Tuesday nights on The CW.
