The latest casting addition for the DC TV universe is Insurgent actor Keiynan Lonsdale, who will join season 2 of the CW’s The Flash as a character fans have been hoping to see zip into their screen for quite a while now: Wally West.

Though it was never made clear whether or not we’d see this take on the character suit up as another speedster as he does in the comics, it has been confirmed that West will indeed don the mantle of Kid Flash at some point on the show – and considering Lonsdale has been added as a series regular, there’s every chance he could eventually take over from Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) as THE Flash one day.

Here’s what Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg had to say about the casting :

“Just like when we met Grant for the first time, we instantly knew Keiynan embodied all the heart and courage of a hero. We are so excited to be bringing this much-beloved character onto the show.”

Lonsdale joins fellow newcomers Teddy Sears as the first ever Flash, Jay Garrick, and Shantel VanSanten as Patty Spivot, a potential new love interest for Barry, when The Flash returns on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
