If you thought FX’s Roanoke Nightmare signalled the end of American Horror Story, think again; the network has officially renewed Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s nerve-shredding anthology series for a seventh season, ensuring that Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson and Co. will return in 2017.
Confirmation comes only three episodes into AHS‘ sixth year on the air, and FX has revealed that the Roanoke-themed season is off to flyer. By combing viewers from linear and non-linear, season 6’s premiere pulled in a total of 13 million viewers, behind only Freak Show and last year’s rather divisive Hotel.
Should series co-creator Ryan Murphy stick to his initial plans, though, season 7 certainly won’t bring about the end of American Horror Story at FX. Chatting to EW, Murphy dropped hints of a “secret season” that may well go on to become the show’s eight installment on the air. That, or the brains behind AHS is piecing together plans to run two seasons within the space of a year. We can only hope.
American Horror Story season 6 continues tomorrow evening with the premiere of “Chapter 4.” Here’s the official word from FX following today’s renewal.
“Ryan, Brad and their team of remarkable writers have done an amazing job of keeping American Horror Story endlessly inventive, shocking and entertaining and we are honored to move ahead with them on the seventh installment,” FX Networks and Productions CEO John Landgraf said. “The sustained success through six installments only proves how intensely the series resonates with fans. AHS confronts our deepest fears with unmatched suspense and style. Each new installment is a cultural event, hotly anticipated for its theme, imagery, cast and twists. We thank the creators and their team, the cast and everyone who has continued to make AHS such an extraordinary series.”
