“Death is coming for everyone and everything.”
Fellow fans of the epic adventure television series Game of Thrones, the season 3 trailer has finally been released!
However, before I delve into the elements depicted in the promo, I want to comment on the music that accompanies it – it’s called Bones by Ms Mr. It’s a song that has been featured in three shows this week: Pretty Little Liars, Grey’s Anatomy and now Game of Thrones. I must admit that it adds a chilling vibe to the scenes displayed in the trailer. One of the trailers for season 2 featured Florence and the Machine’s Seven Devils, which added an ominous effect that was suitable for the events in that season. And the music used in the current trailer does the same thing – it complements the preview and builds up the anticipation for the show.
But back to the trailer itself – book fans will definitely be able to pick a lot of major plot points. Without giving too much away, the preview displays a lot of key characters in Game of Thrones but also introduces some new ones. We get to see some of our favorites, like Tyrion Lannister, Jon Snow and many others, but we’re also introduced to the King beyond the Wall, Mance Rayder and one of his wildlings, Tomund Giantsbane.
A scene that particularly stands out – which is hard to say considering they all do – is the one that features Danerys Targaryen (also known as the Mother of Dragons), standing in front of a huge army. The trailer showcases just how much power she has acquired since her days of being the timid and innocent girl in the first season. Even some of her dragons are starting to take flight and we can’t wait to see if she finally “takes what is hers” in the upcoming season. In addition, it seems like Jon Snow is finally beginning to learn something from Ygritte.
The footage also provides us with glimpses of the events happening in the North, beyond the Wall, King’s Landing and other areas of Westeros. In the North, Catelyn Stark appears to be on a path to get revenge against the Lannisters, Joffrey is still tormenting everyone in King’s Landing and Mance Rayder, a new character portrayed by Ciarán Hinds, is displaying his leadership abilities beyond the Wall. There are lots of things going on in the promo that will be fully revealed when the show airs on HBO.
Game of Thrones premieres on March 31st, 2013 at 9:00p.m Eastern Time. Check out the trailer below.
