With that disclaimer out of the way, IndieWire has relayed a new interview with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jamie), who admitted that his on-screen character has been left “disgusted” by the actions of his sister/lover, Cersei Lannister. That subplot was one of the many story strands that made up “The Dragon and the Wolf,” which is now officially the most-watched episode in the history of Game of Thrones. As reported by EW, the season 7 finale mustered a record 12.1 million viewers which, combined with the figures for HBO’s replays and streaming, pushes that total cume toward 16.5 million.
It’s an impressive finale for what has been a breathless season and here, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau outlines the reasons why Cersei Lannister has ostensibly gone mad with power.
She has so little interest or regard for the rest of humanity. It’s all about just her power… He is truly disgusted by the way she acts. At this point, the threat is clearly real. He believes what he sees, he believes his brother, he believes Jon Snow, he believes Daenerys when she says there’s an army of 100,000 marching. That is so much bigger than anything they’ve ever faced… I think that at this point, even the fact that she’s pregnant, there are bigger things at stake because it’s true what he says,’“No matter what, if the dead wins, there will be no child.’ There is no choice.
Following the show-stopping premiere of “The Dragon and the Wolf,” Game of Thrones will now remain on hiatus until the eighth and final season. Word is that HBO may hold fire until 2019 before unveiling the series finale, which is expected to stretch for six episodes in total. And after that? A Thrones prequel series centering on some of Westeros’ historical icons.
