A Song of Ice and Fire is, of course, the evocative title of George R.R. Martin’s sprawling, genre-defining saga, and through time it’s become a neat primer for the mythic battle between the White Walkers (and Wights!) of the north, and the fire-spewing dragons of the south – or Essos, in the case of HBO’s live-action adaptation.

Speaking of which, Game of Thrones season 7 is fast approaching its release date (July is reportedly the window earmarked by HBO), and in order to stoke the embers of excitement, the network has today peeled back the curtain on a striking teaser poster, which acts as a nod to Martin’s aforementioned novel saga. Embedded below, you’ll find that the beautiful, minimalist one-sheet is essentially a giant sheet of cracked ice doused in flames with the caption, “#GoTS7.”

Don’t expect much in the way of plot details, then, but if history has taught us anything, it’s that HBO tends to roll out a teasing poster in anticipation of a full-blown trailer reveal. So, perhaps our first official look at Game of Thrones season 7 in action is right around the corner? We can only hope. If that’s indeed the case, we will, of course, have full coverage for you here on We Got This Covered. In the meantime, though, feast your eyes on the one-sheet below, as we all collectively brace ourselves for a bleak new season of blockbuster fantasy action.

Angled as the penultimate season for HBO’s fantasy flagship, Game of Thrones season 7 is expected to arrive in July. Temperamental weather is to blame for the show’s late return, but if nothing else, the prolonged wait has only fuelled excitement even more.
