IGN caught up with the actress, who plays Sansa Stark on the hit fantasy drama, to run the rule over X-Men: Dark Phoenix, and how she feels about saying goodbye to the franchise that helped put her on Hollywood’s radar.

We are, of course, referring to Thrones, which is now on the verge of its eighth and final season. It’s one that’s been described as both satisfying and heartbreaking by various staffers (Turner included) and now, the actress has gone on record once again to warn viewers that the Game of Thrones finale may prove divisive among some circles.

Asked how she felt reading the show’s last script, Turner stated:

I think, you know, as an actor it was really satisfying — I think for everyone, everyone’s storylines — to be able to act out the way that it all ends. It was really satisfying for us. Who knows if it will be satisfying for the fans. I think a lot of fans will be disappointed and a lot of fans will be over the moon, I think. I think it will be really interesting to see people’s reactions, but for me reading the script it was just like heartbreaking to read at the very final page of the script it just says, ‘End of Game of Thrones’. That was really emotional.

On a more personal level, the actress then discussed her character of Sansa Stark, and how she’s grown and matured over the years – she’s effectively become Lady of Winterfell in Jon Snow’s absence, who spent much of season 7 negotiating with the Mother of Dragons.

Turner continued:

She kind of takes ownership over who she is and what she stands for. Over the course of the series she’s been completely unaware of what she wants, where she wants to be, who she really is, and at the end of this season, I feel she is the most self-assured character in the show.

Now that production has all but wrapped – barring last-minute reshoots and pick-ups – Game of Thrones season 8 is barreling down on its 2019 premiere. An early April launch date had been rumored, but it now appears as though HBO’s premier fantasy drama will begin to wind down next summer, and we’ll be bringing you all the latest intel from Westeros as time wears on.
