Guillermo Del Toro is one of those filmmakers who’s always busy. He’s seldom got less than 17 projects on the go at once (that’s an estimate) and his unique vision means that we’re regularly permitted entry into his world. A place where the normal parts of life seem extraordinary, either in their darkness, or in their light. He’s in short, brilliant. If like me, you’re a fan of his style then you’ll be pleased as punch with what today brings – our first look at his upcoming series Trollhunters.
Now, before you get too giddy about Del Toro turning the sorely-underrated Norwegian film Trollhunter into a show… just cool your jets. It’s nothing to do with that found footage movie. The family-friendly show has been in development for several years now, with Del Toro working alongside Daniel Kraus who penned the source novel. At one point the property was planned as a feature before Netflix scooped it up for its Original Content division.
This first image is more than enough to get us excited (check out the massive scythe that kid is holding!), but hopefully we’ll get a chance to see some actual footage soon. Until then you can study up on the storyline with the official synopsis below, and we’ll keep you posted with any details on the release date for Trollhunters.
TROLLHUNTERS will unleash a new, fantastical world wrapped around the residents of the fictional suburb of Arcadia who make a startling discovery that the world beneath their hometown is as vast and mind-blowing as anything on the surface. A global must-see viewing event for the entire family, DreamWorks TROLLHUNTERS will bring viewers of all ages around the world into the rich and creative mind of Guillermo del Toro.
