The Hollywood Reporter recently confirmed that actor Cory Monteith, known for his role as Finn on the TV show Glee, has been found dead in his Vancouver hotel.

Monteith was found on Saturday at noon. After he failed to meet his checkout time, hotel staff went to his room and discovered his body. Vancouver police have stated that no foul play is suspected, but no cause of death will be available until the autopsy. Monteith was with other people on Friday night and returned to his hotel early Saturday morning. He had been dead for several hours before his body was found.

Cory Monteith’s death comes as quite a shock. He was only 31, and seems to have had no history of health problems. He did check into rehab once when he was 19 and once this year, but as of now there’s no reason to suspect that substance abuse had anything to do with his death.

Monteith’s character on Glee has been one of only a few original stars to continue to be featured on the show in the fourth and fifth seasons. He was supposed to appear in season 5 as a continuing series regular. He also appears in indie film All The Wrong Reasons, set to release sometime in 2013.

There has been an outpouring of support and condolences for Monteith’s family and girlfriend, fellow Glee star Lea Michele. Director Adam Shankman had this to say:

I will always cherish you in my heart. Thank you for so many wonderful days. I love you.

Fellow cast member Dot-Marie Jones, who played Finn’s football coach, Tweeted this:

I have no words! My heart is broken Cory was not only a hell of a friend he was one amazing men [sic] that I will hold close to my heart forever

The actor who played Finn’s best friend Puck, Mark Salling, simply tweeted “no” about his friend’s death.

It’s always a tragedy when a young person dies. While there will be plenty of speculation as to cause until the official autopsy is released, there’s no doubt that whatever the reason for his death, Cory Monteith will be greatly missed by fans and cast members alike
