7 Characters Who Should Be On Season 3 Of Gotham

Since its premiere in late 2014, Gotham has gone from strength to strength. It has successfully updated the often cluttered backstories of several core characters, holding the attention of both casual viewers and long time comic book fans. Season two has now ended and the streets are more dangerous than ever, while our heroes and villains are beginning to fall into step with their comic book counterparts (looking at you, Ed Nygma). Several characters we've not seen in a while have also returned, with different priorities than when we last left them.

Despite debuting less than twenty years ago, Prometheus has gathered one of the most dedicated cult followings amongst villains in all of comicdom. With only a tiny cameo in 2009’s Arkham Asylum to go by, his supporters took to the forums to campaign for a more substantial showing, and for good reason.

For those who view comic books as modern literature, this is a character who draws parallels with greek mythology (he takes his name from the titan who gifted humans with fire, having stole it from the gods) and serves as an attack on the often hypocritical and naive nature of comic book morality. To fans, he’s someone who can take on the Justice League alone. He is an immensely charismatic genius, whose only superpower is his ability to manipulate others. He even once had a full on relationship with Midnighter (a gay superhero who can predict an opponent’s attack before it even begins) in order to lull him into a false sense of security.

All that aside, he’s also an orphan who loved his parents deeply, much like a certain Wayne enterprises CEO. Unlike Bruce’s parents, however, Prometheus’ folks were murderous thieves who thought nothing of collateral damage, which is what led to their demise at the hands of the police. Due to this, we don’t know his real name, age or any further details whatsoever.

The chance to finally see his origin story play out in full, to watch him go from being an obsessed, vengeful teen to a worthy opponent for the most famous superhero team in the world, is irresistible. Even at a young age, he could present a believable, original, season spanning threat to the entire city. Who would be able to stop a person capable of stealing the gods’ thunder? The only one insightful enough to get inside his head of course, Bruce Wayne.

Of course, given 77 years of storytelling, there are countless characters and stories within the Batman mythos, ripe for screen adaptation. The 7 chosen here are just a few, and with a team as creative as the one currently working on Gotham, you can be sure whatever’s coming in season 3, it’s gonna be good.
