Fox’s Jim Gordon-centric series Gotham is shaping up fast and moving swiftly toward its fall 2014 premiere. Several major roles were cast last month, including Gordon himself, his partner Harvey Bullock, the Penguin, Alfred and the Penguin’s boss Fish Mooney. That left one major part left to be filled: the young Dark Knight himself, Bruce Wayne. Now we not only have a young actor to step into the role of the future Batman, but have also learnt that the future Catwoman, Selina Kyle, has been cast as well.
Bruce will be played by fourteen year-old Touch star David Mazouz, and Selina by fifteen year-old Camren Bicondova, a dancer who appeared on America’s Best Dance Crew.Â
Gotham will begin with the murder of Bruce’s parents and from there focus on a young Jim Gordon, a detective new to Gotham city. Various reports have mentioned that Bruce will be a recurring character on the show and that it may take some time to focus on him growing up and eventually donning the cape and cowl. At this point, it’s still too early to tell what direction the series might take though as there just hasn’t been much news on the show aside from the casting decisions.
Selina’s role in the show is a little more uncertain. Though she’s integral to Batman’s story, she’s not as integral in Gordon’s, so we have to wonder if her inclusion is important to the series itself or simply a form of fan service. She’s described as “a teenage orphan who is suspiciously and wholly unpredictable. A street thief and skilled pickpocket, she’s dangerous when cornered.” Could her and Bruce meet up and connect? The both of them are orphans, after all. Or perhaps she steals his ice cream on the playground? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see to find out.
