Some very interesting casting news is coming in from New York Comic-Con this evening, as it’s been announced that none other than Paul Reubens, AKA Pee-wee Herman, has joined the cast of the second season of Fox’s Gotham as Oswald Cobblepot’s (Robin Lord Taylor) father.

The news broke during the super-sized “Warner Bros. Television Takeover” panel, when Taylor exclaimed:

“We just found out that I do have a father and he will be showing up very soon, and he will be played by none other than Paul Reubens! Pee-wee Herman is playing my dad! What the hell! Oh my god!”

If this sounds familiar somehow, it’s because Reubens already played the Penguin’s pops! In Tim Burton’s 1992 sequel Batman Returns, the actor was cast in the small role of Tucker Cobblepot. When his wife gives birth to the child that eventually becomes Danny DeVito’s grotesque take on the classic Batman villain, the couple decide to get rid of the cat-killing abomination and fling him into the river.

Gotham returns to Fox with a new episode this Monday night. No word yet on when Reubens will appear, but we’ll keep you posted.
