As Gotham's fifth and final season continues to fall into place, a series of set photos have emerged showcasing the villainous Bane.

You’ve heard of him, haven’t you? Bane?

He’s arguably one of Bruce Wayne’s deadliest foes – a hulking brute capable of breaking Batman’s back as though he were snapping a toothpick.

It’s a character that took on a life of its own thanks to The Dark Knight Rises and Tom Hardy’s raw, emotionally-charged performance, in particular, but now it’s Shane West’s turn to pick up the mantle as Bane. And, well, let’s just say his supercharged mercenary is worlds away from the one that brought Gotham to its knees six years ago.

Speaking of Gotham, a series of never-before-seen set photos have emerged onto the interwebs (h/t Heroic Hollywood) today, which essentially reveal a major dust-up between Bane and, er, Jim Gordon. Let’s just say we don’t fancy the latter’s chances of survival…

Truth be told, the mechanical set-up wouldn’t look out of place in a Mad Max wasteland, or some cheaply-made Darth Vader fan movie, but perhaps we shouldn’t be so quick to judge.

DC’s suite of TV shows have consistently pumped out a great number of famous characters over the years, and while some have failed to resonant with the audience, we imagine a character like Bane will make an immediate impact – not least because of the physicality he brings to set, as evidenced by the photos above. Keep your peepers peeled for more.

The fifth and final season of FX’s Batman prequel series is due to arrive mid-way through 2019, by which point we should have a better understanding of Bane and what he has planned for the people of Gotham. He may look like a Mortal Kombat reject, but we have a sneaking suspicion that Shane West’s nemesis has dark and dangerous things planned for Bruce Wayne.
