Undoubtedly, one of the most intriguing aspects of Gotham‘s upcoming spring premiere is that of seeing Edward Nygma taking a major stride toward his destiny of becoming the Riddler. Although we’ve gotten hints of this in the past with a brief promo, the official synopsis for the appropriately titled “How The Riddler Got His Name” has surfaced, thereby somewhat satisfying our hunger while we countdown to the show’s return.

Before proceeding any further, let’s make the iconic villain proud by taking a look at said description in order to see whatever clues it may offer:

Nygma convinces himself that he doesn’t need Penguin to succeed and begins to introduce himself to Gotham as “The Riddler.” Bullock and Lucius Fox get caught up in Nygma’s mind games, while Gordon learns troubling news about his father’s death. Meanwhile, the Court of the Owls reveals its next move.

Had the title of this episode not been so on the nose, we would’ve questioned whether his introduction as the Riddler was merely symbolic, but it’s really looking like somebody’s ready to say the name out loud. If not, it’s fair to say that we’ll all feel cheated. Taking into account some of Cory Michael Smith’s recent words, it seems like all the character traits will be there regardless, right down to his compulsion to take credit for his crimes.

Quite surprisingly, the promo images released in advance (seen at the top) don’t really have much to do with Nygma himself, aside from a question mark spray painted on one of Penguin’s belongings. Still, it’s quite amusing to see Oswald Cobblepot looking off camera as if to say, “Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t see you come in!”

Gotham returns with new episodes on Monday, April 24 on Fox.
