The CW’s proposed Arrow and The Flash spinoff series is generating a lot early buzz thanks to its super-powered creative team. The show, slated for a midseason debut, proposes to be a gigantic mashup of DC’s most beloved comic characters and has a wealth of experienced names shepherding it to the small screen.

Arrow and The Flash executive producers Andrew Kreisberg and Greg Berlanti, as well as Arrow brass Marc Guggenheim and Sarah Schechte,r are developing the show. Specific story details have been kept under wraps since its announcement, but Berlanti recently took time out of his schedule to discuss the show with EW:

“For me, it honors all of the great team up movies, whether it’s Ocean’s Eleven or whether it’s the superhero books. That’s what it’s about. If you go back to the old westerns, there would be The Lone Gunman, but there would also be The Magnificent Seven. It’s very much in the spirit of those kinds of movies and shows.”

“I only want to do them when I know that they’ll feel distinct from the other shows we’re doing. This is really its own thing.”

The team-up spinoff has so far managed to secure both shows’ main players – including a baddie favorite. The latest Flash antagonist pairing, Captain Cold/Heat Wave, will be back to wreak havoc, as Dominic Purcell has joined the cast as pyromaniac Mick Rory. He’ll join Brandon Routh as Arrow‘s Ray Palmer/The Atom, Wentworth Miller as The Flash‘s Leonard Snart/Captain Cold, Victor Garber as The Flash‘s Dr. Martin Stein/Firestorm, and Caity Lotz in an as-yet undisclosed role.
