Game of Thrones, HBO’s beloved and critically acclaimed fantasy epic, is quickly approaching its eighth and final season, and don’t we know all about it. After eight years, 67 episodes and more jaw-dropping moments than we can count, Thrones is facing some mighty expectations as it heads into its final run, so the onus is really on showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss to deliver and send the hit series off on a high note.

Whether they’ll be able to do so or not remains to be seen, but rest assured, the new season will be here soon, as HBO has finally announced the official premiere date via the trailer embedded up above, and it’s Sunday, April 14th. That’s really not too far off and no doubt with a date now out in the wild, excitement and anticipation for this final batch of episodes will begin to skyrocket.

Led by the Night King and his undead army, we can tell you that season 8 will find the White Walkers marching forth into the Northern Kingdoms as things get underway, and if recent comments from star Kit Harington are to be believed, then season 8 is going to be a “relentless” installment that simply doesn’t let up.

“It’s relentless; scenes that would have been a one-day shoot five years ago are now a five-day shoot,” said the actor. “They want to get it right, they want to shoot everything every single way so they have options.”

Excited yet? We sure are, and though it’s soon to be the end of an era for both Game of Thrones and perhaps even TV in general, fans can rest assured that the franchise will continue to live on, with a prequel series already in development and numerous other spinoffs being considered by HBO as well.
