Set against a melancholic rendition of James Vincent McMorrow’s “Wicked Game,” today’s snippet is a haunting and effective teaser of what’s in store for all of the show’s key chess pieces, including a certain Lord Commander.

Granted, it doesn’t necessarily address the elephant in the room (read: the fate of Kit Harrington’s Jon Snow) directly, but look close enough and you’ll unearth a shot of the fallen Lord Commander in the company of Melisandre – let’s face it, the Red Priestess is prone to dabbling with black magic. Could she have a role in Snow’s resurrection?

But Ned Stark’s bastard isn’t the only key player in trouble for Game of Thrones season 6; Daenerys Targaryen, cast astray in Essos, looks to have been imprisoned by a Dothraki army, and Isaac Hempstead Wright’s Bran Stark – totally absent from season 5 – looks to have encountered the Night’s King, leader of the Walkers. That is, of course, assuming it isn’t one of Bran’s visions.

Lastly, we see Ser Davos Seaworth draw a blade, Arya acclimatizing to her blindness and a incestuous, yet determined Lannister couple ready to seize everything they’ve lost – and more. It’s shaping up to be a doozy, that’s for sure.

Send a raven! Game of Thrones season 6 will see the powers of Westeros and Essos collide once more when HBO’s politically charged flagship returns on April 24.
