It may have struggled to pick up steam during its formative years, a time when HBO shut down production to allow co-creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy to doctor the script, but the star-studded Westworld series is now barrelling down on its October premiere.
We’ve already become acquainted with the core characters, not to mention catching wind of the many secrets said to be buried in this most alien world. Now, it’s time to bear witness to the Western amusement park in motion with this new, unnerving trailer.
Inspired by the 1973 movie of the same name, Westworld chronicles the story of idealist and self-proclaimed ruler Dr. Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins), who presides over an army of artificial beings manufactured for the sole purpose of entertaining visitors from far-flung lands. In true sci-fi fashion, it isn’t long before those androids – Evan Rachel Wood’s Dolores included – become self-aware, threatening to thrust Ford’s prized creation into disarray.
Joining Woods in a central role is Ed Harris’ gunslinger, who begins to peel back the layers of Westworld one confounding mystery at a time. They’ll be joined by James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Rodrigo Santoro, Shannon Woodward, Steven Ogg, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Ben Barnes, Jimmi Simpson, Clifton Collins Jr., Simon Quarterman, Angela Sarafyan, and Creed breakout Tessa Thompson.
That vast array of talent stretches behind the lens, too, with Jonathan Nolan – co-writer behind The Prestige, The Dark Knight, and Interstellar – and Lisa Joy attached to oversee production. J.J. Abrams also holds a small producing role on this new, serialized interpretation as well.
Westworld finally trots onto HBO come October 2. The question now is, will you be tuning in?
