In their never-ending slaughter of animated content, Max (formerly known as HBO Max) has axed The Batman animated series that aired in 2004 and ran for five seasons until it was discontinued in 2008. Beginning on Kid’s WB, the series soon migrated to Cartoon Network, where it found a permanent home before becoming available on streaming services, namely Max, until recently. And now that it’s no longer available to stream on Max at your convenience, you might be wondering where — if anywhere — The Batman is still showing.
In The Batman, Bruce Wayne is fighting crime as the Dark Knight, but the GCPD would rather ignore his existence as the vigilante than agree to work alongside him. Wayne operates out of the Bat Cave with the help of his butler, Alfred Pennyworth, using high-tech gadgets. During his crime-fighting ventures, Batman encounters numerous supervillains famed within the DC Universe, including Joker, Harley Quinn, Penguin, Poison Ivy, and more.
Bruce Wayne is voiced by Rino Romano, who is joined by an ensemble cast of Danielle Judovits, Evan Sabara, Alastair Duncan, Piera Coppola, Ming-Na Wen, Steve Harris, Kevin Michael Richardson, Jesse Corti, Mitch Pileggi, and Adam West. As the seasons progress, more characters are introduced in correlation with interconnecting DC shows, such as Teen Titans, which introduced Dick Grayson. The final season focuses primarily on Batman and Robin, who team up with other superheroes, such as Superman, Martian Manhunter, Green Arrow, The Flash and Hawkman.
Right now, since its departure from Max, The Batman is available to stream on Netflix in the U.S. However, for international viewers, accessing the American library from outside the United States requires a virtual private network (VPN). Alternatively, the entire series is available on Amazon Video, Blu-ray, Google Play, and the Xbox Video Store.
