‘I did one of the ‘Spider-Man’ movies’: ‘Secret Invasion’ star’s hidden musical career means the series technically isn’t his MCU debut

The secret sideline ensures 'Secret Invasion' isn't his first dance with the MCU.

Playing the President of the United States in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Secret Invasion is one heck of a way to make your debut in the franchise, although rumors of Harrison Ford’s Thaddeus Ross assuming the role by the time Captain America: Brave New World rolls around indicates that Dermot Mulroney‘s time in the franchise’s White House may be short-lived.

However, while the part of President Ritson marks the veteran character actor’s first appearance on screen in the MCU, it’s far from his first dance with Marvel Studios in general. In fact, Mulroney somewhat surprisingly revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that part of his filmography as an accomplished classical cellist came as a member of the orchestra on one of of Jon Watts’ Spider-Man blockbusters.

“I think the only Marvel score I did was one of the Spider-Man movies with [Michael] Giacchino. I don’t know if there’s actually a real list of the scores that I played on. Some of them are obscure, and some of them would be big movies that anyone would know. I mean, I’m at the back of the cello section, joining in with incredible, world-class players. But I have had the most remarkable, unforgettable days seeing parts of the completed movie and working with a conductor and a full orchestra, playing brand-new music that in a lot of cases, no one will ever play again.”

There you have it, if you ever want to stump somebody with some MCU trivia there’s a 99 percent chance your peers won’t be able to answer, then ask them which project marked the official debut of Dermot Mulroney in any capacity, because the answer most definitely is not Secret Invasion.
