‘If it were up to me, I’d want it to keep going’: Piper Perabo on the upcoming ‘Yellowstone’ conclusion

Piper Perabo is emotional about the future of 'Yellowstone' and we're here to share our tissues with her.

Piper Perabo is just like us, as a quick-approaching end to Yellowstone isn’t exactly what she had on her dream board for the year 2023. Breathing life into Summer Higgins, Perabo has enjoyed a polarizing character arc in her journey with the Duttons, and as one of its most die-hard fans, I can confirm that her storyline has grown to be one fans adore, whether they’re willing to admit it openly or not.

So when the actress and activist sat down with Entertainment Tonight, she was asked about her work on the series and what her perspective was of the impending and too-quickly-approaching end to a story we weren’t quite ready to say goodbye to yet. Perabo confirms that fans aren’t the only ones longing for more time with this chapter of the family story.

“I mean, if it were up to me, I would want to keep it going, but I know that Taylor wants to expand the whole thing. So even though Yellowstone might be ending, there may be so many more things to come.”

While we don’t know exactly where things stand moving forward, Perabo says that Sheridan was working on the script before the writers’ strike began. With the significant cliffhanger we were left with during the mid-season finale, no one knows what territory we’ll be traveling when we reunite with the Duttons in the (hopefully) not-so-distant future. Perabo says she’s “waiting herself” to find out where the story goes from here.

Perabo also had some advice for an all-star actor headed to the Yellowstone ranch in an upcoming spinoff: Matthew McConaughey. While his exact placement in the Yellowverse has yet to be confirmed, we know he’ll bring something magnificent to whatever branch of the family table he sits at for dinner.

“I think he could be good in the Yellowstone world; he lives in Texas, and he understands the cowboy lifestyle. This is what I’ve gotta say, ‘You better be a good rider,’ because Taylor Sheridan is a great cowboy — you better come in with some experience.”

McConaughey coming in with experience will be a must for Sheridan’s ever-expanding Yellowverse, and with a camaraderie already built with fan-favorite Cole Hauser, who plays Rip Wheeler, we have a feeling that things are only going to get better for Dutton fans, and what a breath of fresh air that is. Saying goodbye to Yellowstone won’t be easy for any of us, even with a continuing storyline. When season 5 returns, it will undoubtedly be an emotional ride.
