In early April, it gets pretty easy to brush off any far-fetched thing you see on the internet as a belated April Fools joke. However, in doing so, we run the risk of sweeping legitimate news stories under the rug as way too weird or whacky to be true.
We seem to have reached such a dilemma with the buzz currently circulating that the beloved Lizzo has debuted as a Star Wars character in a galaxy far, far away in none other than the (more or less) universally loved The Mandalorian.
Is there any truth to these headlines, or are you getting punked by an elaborate bit on social media? Say it were true, would you be absolutely foaming at the mouth in unadulterated rage, or would you be thinking it’s “About Damn Time?” Let’s dig into what everyone’s kicking up a fuss about.
Lizzo in The Mandalorian, explained
This is not a drill, or a bit – Lizzo does in fact appear in a season three episode of The Mandalorian titled “Chapter 22: Guns for Hire.” To make matters all the more bizarre, Lizzo’s partner is beloved musician and School of Rock and The Super Mario Bros. Movie star Jack Black. The pair are the leaders of a far-off planet called Plazir-15, where Din Djarin goes in search of Bo Katan’s former crewmates.
If you thought those were out-there guest appearances in the Disney Plus Star Wars series, we might also mention that Back to the Future’s Christopher Lloyd also plays a denizen of Plazir-15 as Commissioner Helgait. You may be in love with the idea of such a star-studded guest star list, but others aren’t as enthusiastic, with some now calling The Mandalorian a full-blown parody.
