Is season four of ‘Succession’ the last?

Season three did end on a cliff-hanger.

The third season of the HBO series Succession ended on a somber note, with Brian Cox’s Logan Roy maneuvering his way out of the clutches of his children and finally making a move to sell his company Waystar RoyCo. After Tom Wambsgans (Matthew Macfadyen) tipped his father-in-law off, it does not seem like the fourth season of the show will move into cheerful territory for any member of the Roy family.

You won’t have too long to wait to find out what they get up to, as the fourth season of Succession is set to premiere on HBO on March 26, 2023. But, with the finality of season three, and how each season seemingly improves upon the last, you might be wondering if there will be another season of the show after season four. Let’s take a look at all we know about Succession and tell you which season might be its last.

Will Succession end with season four?

via HBO Max

In a recent interview with The New Yorker, the creator, and showrunner of Succession Jesse Armstrong, has confirmed that the fourth season of the series will be the last season. Armstrong said, “I do think that this succession story that we were telling is complete.” The series only first hit the small screen in 2018, with the satirical dramedy winning 13 Emmy Awards and 5 Golden Globe Awards.

Although he does go on to suggest the possibility of a spinoff or continuation in some way if there is a story there, and if people want a continuation. The world of Succession has built up a few different media empires so maybe a spinoff could follow one of them, especially if the series ends with someone actually succeeding Logan because he dies.

As to where the characters will end up, well, we don’t know. Kendall (Jeremy Strong) could end up nearly killing himself again, Roman (Kieran Culkin) could end up pursuing a romance with Gerri (J. Smith-Cameron), Shiv (Sarah Snook) could end up divorcing Tom and well, anybody could end up the head of the company, including Greg (Nicholas Braun). Who knows, Greg and Tom might even run away together.

But we will obviously know more when the fourth season comes to an end. Let’s just hope that the series leaves on a high note, and meets the expectations of its hardcore fans. You can catch the fourth and final season of Succession when the first episode premieres on March 26, 2023, on HBO.
