‘It took me 2 weeks to watch episode 6’: ‘The Bear’ nominated as a comedy at the Emmys ignites a whole new crisis

A comedy? Really?!

One of the hottest topics sweeping the entertainment realm this past week pertains to the 2023 Emmy nominations finally being brought to light. And while shows like The White Lotus are once again looking to sniff out comedy success at the ceremony, a mind-numbing FX series being considered as a comedy is throwing folks through an absolute loop. This is precisely the case for The Bear, which has received several nominations in the comedy category — a decision that simply doesn’t make sense for many.

With the nomination officially announced yesterday, fans of The Bear were immediately caught dead in their tracks after noticing that both the FX series itself and star Jeremy Allen White were nominated in the comedy categories. And while it’s certainly encouraging to see White secure an Emmy nomination after initially rising to stardom for his portrayal as Lip in Shameless, the truth is that it’s hard for the fanbase to consider the series as a comedy when so much tension and drama happen within each episode — with fans even claiming White’s character constantly suffers an “existential crisis.”

Funny how a “comedy” show gives us all a panic attack.

We are stressed during each episode.

It’s so stressful, in fact, that folks are taking their time while watching.

Of course, users on Twitter did mention that the show makes them chuckle a few times each episode, but that certainly doesn’t feel like enough to nominate the series as a comedy — especially when those same users and fans have insisted that the show sends them into a panic attack with each episode. But no matter the assigned category, it’s delightful to see the FX series receiving its moment in the spotlight.
