To celebrate the impending release of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Disney is finally adding the entire franchise to the content library of its streaming service, but there’s one project above all that stands out from the pack. Sure, the original trilogy is an all-timer and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is also a thing that exists, but the chance to see The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles is a cause for celebration.
For years, fans have been demanding to know why the widely-popular TV series has been withheld from their watch-list, but it’s a question that no longer needs to be answered. It speaks volume about the show’s reputation that when it was rumored an Indy-centric episodic spin-off was in the works, everyone was quick to point out that there was already one out there that couldn’t hope to be bettered.
Looking at the current complexion of the small screen landscape, The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles was a lot more influential than it was deemed at the time. George Lucas himself spearheaded a top-tier property being adapted for television, while the 28 episodes and four feature-length installments boasted a cavalcade of past, present, and future stars including Daniel Craig, Christopher Lee, Clark Gregg, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Elizabeth Hurley, Ian McDiarmid, and Max von Sydow.
