If we’ve learned anything from Supernatural, it’s that the death of a character is hardly a guarantee that we’ll never see them again. I mean, Bobby bit the bullet back in season 7 and still went on to be a recurring presence and we can’t even count the number of times Sam and Dean Winchester themselves have died. With the concept of alternate universes also now being wholeheartedly embraced, the possibilities are truly endless.
And so, after much demand from fans – and the actor himself – we’re happy to tell you that John Winchester, and, more specifically, as played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, will now be making a return. The CW confirmed as much today, revealing that The Walking Dead star will reprise his role for Supernatural‘s upcoming 300th episode.
“We’re incredibly excited to have Jeffrey back for this milestone episode, and think fans will love what we have planned for his character… and a few other guest stars,” said executive producer Andrew Dabb.
If you’ll recall, finding Dad after he went missing while hunting formed the backbone of season 1. And after he traded his life for Dean’s at the beginning of the next run, Morgan’s iteration of John wasn’t heard from again after his farewell of sorts in “All Hell Breaks Loose.” True, Matt Cohen did portray a younger version in journeys to the past and such, but it just wasn’t quite the same.
That’s why it’s so exciting to see that JDM’s now returning, and while it doesn’t sound like this will be a regular position for him, having him back for the 300th episode will surely make it a special outing for the show. And it all goes down on Thursday, February 7th at 8pm ET on The CW, when Supernatural airs “Lebanon,” which will see Jeffrey Dean Morgan back on the hit series after much demand from the fans.
