Jeremy Renner Would Be Open To A Hawkeye Netflix Series

It's no secret that fans felt like Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye got a bit of a shaft in The Avengers. And while Avengers: Age of Ultron did rectify that a bit, it's hard not to feel like there's still a lot more that can be done with the character. So, imagine our excitement then when Renner revealed in a recent interview that he'd actually be open to bringing the hero to the small screen via Netflix.

It’s no secret that fans felt like Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye got a bit of a shaft in The Avengers. And while Avengers: Age of Ultron did rectify that a bit, it’s hard not to feel like there’s still a lot more that can be done with the character. So, imagine our excitement then when Renner revealed in a recent interview that he’d actually be open to bringing the hero to the small screen via Netflix.

As Daredevil and Jessica Jones have proven, the streaming service is an excellent home for superheroes and just because they’re not on the big screen with a hundred million dollar budget backing them, these characters could still be the star of quality productions.

While speaking at the Silicon Valley Comic-Con, Renner had the following to say when asked about doing a Hawkeye show on Netflix:

“I think that’s actually a really great model, if there’s ever a way to explore the character, maybe it’s in that world. These are things that are really not in my control, but I’d be open to it. I’ve really enjoyed getting to explore the character more recently. The Netflix model is where all the character drama goes to now, you’re doing a superhero movie or a Netflix or HBO kind of model. So I’d be open to it. Not up to me, though.”

As great of an idea that this is, unfortunately it doesn’t seem likely that it will happen anytime soon. For one, Marvel already has their Netflix slate pretty full with DaredevilJessica JonesIron FistLuke CageThe Defenders and that rumored Punisher spinoff. Plus, Hawkeye is still very much a part of the big screen Avengers and to have him on the small screen in his own series could complicate that given the timelines and overall cinematic universe that Marvel is building.

Still, if all the kinks could be ironed out, Netflix would definitely be a great place to allow the character to grow and show off more of his backstory. He’s got a lot of potential and like we said above, even though Avengers: Age of Ultron gave him more of a chance to shine, we still feel like there’s a lot more that can be done with Hawkeye.
