UPDATE: Apparently this is false and MTV has no plans to recast.

In what comes as a bit of a shock, MTV is looking to replace the Jersey Shore cast after season 5. The move comes in an attempt by the network to manage their budget for the show, which is becoming larger and larger every year due to the ridiculous salaries that the cast is demanding. MTV feels that by replacing the cast and starting over with fresh new faces, they can reduce their salary expense.

Us Magazine says that the cast will begin shooting season five in New Jersey this Monday and after that they’ll be done. A source told the magazine that “after this group comes back from Italy and shoots season 5 this summer, that will be the end for them.” Another factor in this decision is the recent spinoff shows that MTV announced. Some of the cast members will be getting their own shows and this will likely be costing the network quite a bit.

Admittedly, as entertaining as the show is, it’s starting to get a bit old. Sure, the characters are interesting but there’s only so much that the writers can do with them. I feel like we’ve already seen everything that can be done with the show and most of the stuff feels redundant at this point. How many times can we see Situation act obnoxious? Or watch Ron and Sam fight? Or watch Vin and Snooki pretend to be just friends?

That being said, who knows if a new cast will be able to recapture the magic that this cast had. As much as it is starting to go downhill, these people are still a ton of fun to watch and they all seem like one of a kind. Will MTV be able to find a new Situation or Pauly D? What about Snooki? Is there anyone else like her out there?
