The Flash Season 4

Jesse L. Martin Returns In New Photos From The Flash

Entertaining as the current season of The Flash has thus far proven to be, there’s been something missing: Joe West. Played by Jesse L. Martin, this fine detective has shown himself to be an invaluable ally to the crew at STAR Labs, and lent countless heartwarming moments since the pilot episode aired. In other words, he’s every bit as good of a TV cop as he is a TV dad.

Unfortunately, Jesse had to take a leave of absence from the series after injuring his back. As such, his character hasn’t been seen since episode 5×04 (really, it’s been that long). But now that the veteran actor has been given ample time to heal, he’ll return just in time for what might end up being March’s biggest Arrowverse showdown.

We are, of course, talking about “King Shark vs. Gorilla Grodd.”

As it turns out, the photos promoting said episode don’t actually focus on the two titans putting up their dukes. Instead, Joe West factors heavily into the gallery found below. And as you can see, he’s making sure that he takes the time to catch up with his daughter, Iris.

Aside from that stuff, we’re treated to a few images of Team Flash meeting with ARGUS’ Lyla Michaels-Diggle. This, I imagine, may be the only remaining hint at the main event before it’s actually showtime. Given how much hype is going into this, fingers remain crossed for the visual effects crew to give the CGI whatever polish is needed.

For more on “King Shark vs. Gorilla Grodd,” be sure to check out the official synopsis:

THE ULTIMATE SHOWDOWN — When Gorilla Grodd (voiced by David Sobolov) attacks Central City, Barry (Grant Gustin) and Team Flash find themselves teaming up with an unexpected ally to defeat — King Shark (voiced by David Hayter). However, when they hit a snag, they bring in Dr. Tanya Lamden (guest star Zibby Allen) to try to reach the man behind the shark, Shay Lamden (guest star Dan Payne). Stefan Pleszczynski directed the episode written by Eric Wallace & Lauren Certo (#515).

The Flash returns with new episodes on Tuesday, March 5th on The CW.
