With all the buzz over Marvel and Netflix’s latest endeavor, Luke Cage, it’d be easy to forget that they’ve got another very exciting show in production right now: The Punisher. Yes, that’s right, the spinoff born from the second season of Daredevil is shooting in New York and thanks to Just Jared, we now have the first batch of set photos to prove it.

As is often the case, they don’t reveal anything at all about the plot or what we can expect from the highly anticipated series, but they do show star Jon Bernthal sporting a pretty heavy beard. Though it’s quite a different look than the one he rocked back in Daredevil, facial hair is something that we’ve seen Frank Castle wear before, particularly in Greg Rucka’s run on the comic book series.

With production now underway, it’s probably safe to say that The Punisher could be with us as early as 2017. It would make sense, too, as he’s rumored to be appearing in The Defenders, which means Marvel would no doubt want to give fans even more exposure to the character before he shows up there. Plus, there was also that hint that Chris Pratt dropped which had people thinking that Frank might be in an MCU film before long as well. It’s purely speculation for now, of course, but you can see his comment below and decide for yourself if he’s alluding to anything:

Either way, we’re thrilled to see that The Punisher is now shooting. Without a doubt, the character is one of our favorites in the MCU and after the taste of him that we got in Daredevil season 2, we’re eager to see more of Frank Castle and dive further into his backstory – something which the spinoff will no doubt do.

Now that set photos have begun to emerge, you can probably expect more from the series to land online soon. But in the meantime, take a look at the first batch of pics below and let us know what you hope to see from the show once it hits Netflix next year.
