Kevin Feige has to be very careful with his words. As perhaps the only person on the planet who knows all about Marvel Studios, he could easily let slip more than he intends, because you know MCU fans are always ready and waiting to sift through his every comment with a fine-toothed comb. Sure enough, his tease at the future of the Multiverse Saga surely spoils what’s to come — or what’s not to come — in Loki season 2.
In the much-anticipated Marvel Studios: The Marvel Cinematic Universe: An Official Timeline, Kevin Feige’s introduction alludes to the continuing importance of the Time Variance Authority in the franchise to come, declaring that the TVA is the “real authority” on the MCU multiverse and declares them to be “the guardians of the Sacred Timeline.” Feige’s re-emphasis of the TVA’s significance to the ongoing saga playing across Phases Four through Six thereby surely confirms that Loki season 2 won’t end with an event that’s being heavily teased.
Throughout the second run of the Tom Hiddleston Disney Plus series so far, the TVA has been in constant jeopardy. With the Temporal Loom at breaking point, the TVA’s headquarters — which exists outside of time in its own dimension — is at risk of being destroyed. Even though Victor Timely is now on side to help fix it, the duplicitous nature of the Kang variant meant the organization’s fate was still up in the air. Well, perhaps Feige’s assurance that the TVA will remain the ultimate authority in the MCU means we can breathe easy.
This fits with set photos and such that confirm the TVA will play some sort of role in Deadpool 3, with further rumors indicating they will also be responsible for bringing together a group of multiversal heroes in Avengers: Secret Wars. No doubt Loki season 2 will end on some kind of shocking cliffhanger, but we can sleep well knowing that the TVA isn’t going anywhere. Another hint that season 3 is coming? Let’s hope so.
