Deadline is reporting that actress Krysten Ritter has taken the lead role in Jessica Jones, Marvel’s upcoming Netflix series. Apparently, it came down to her and Teresa Palmer and the studio went with Ritter because she had better chemistry with Mike Colter, who is said to be the frontrunner for the role of Luke Cage.

The 13-episode drama series will center on the titular superhero, who suffers from “post-traumatic stress disorder, which leads to her hanging up her costume and opening her own detective agency, where she ends up helping people and assisting other superheroes.”

To be perfectly honest, I’m not too familiar with the character of Jessica Jones, so I can’t comment on whether or not Ritter is a good fit for the role. However, I am familiar with the actress from her days on Veronica Mars and Breaking Bad, among other things, and generally enjoy her work. She’s got a strong screen presence and often comes off as savvy and confident, which should bode well for the role.
