Latest Fantasy News: A ‘Six of Crows’ spinoff could redeem the overstuffed second season of ‘Shadow and Bone’

We demand more Crows.

Look, I’m a big Shadow and Bone fan, but that second season was not everything we deserved.

Sure, there were some wonderful character moments, and some very cool scenery featured across its eight episodes, but the second season strove to stuff far too many plot points, characters, and story arcs into far too little time. The result is an overstuffed season that failed to fully reach its potential.

Despite its flaws, however, I’d like to see the show return — hopefully a bit better, next time — and, more than that, I’d love to pay witness to the rumored Six of Crows spinoff. The Crows are undeniably one of the best parts of Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse, and fans are already clamoring for them to finally get a shot at their own, uninhibited, story.

Netflix’s history with fantasy programs doesn’t instill much hope, unfortunately, despite its willingness to see both Shadow and Bone and Sweet Tooth return for a second season. Sweet Tooth season two has yet to hit the platform, but an early trailer hints that the story is set to level up in its next part. Let’s just hope that, should it end on another cliffhanger, Netflix doesn’t give the series the ax.

Shadow and Bone’s filming locations

The second season of Shadow and Bone expanded the Grishaverse beyond the bounds of Ravka and Ketterdam, and introduced viewers to several new locations. Many of the show’s more cinematic shots, and all of the stunning palaces that host Ravka’s upper echelon, are located in Hungary, with Budapest offering up many of the show’s most eye-catching scenery. The show’s careful selection of filming locations is catching the attention of fans, particularly when weighed against those rather lackluster set pieces.

Your Sweet Tooth fix is coming soon

Season two of Sweet Tooth is likewise headed to Netflix soon, finally providing fans with some answers after season one’s painful cliffhanger. A trailer for the upcoming season, which is set to arrive on Netflix on April 27, raises the stakes for the show’s young hero. Gus, the hybrid child at the center of Sweet Tooth’s story, found himself captured at the end of season one, and season two seems poised to put Gus’s fate into his own hands.

The potential for a Six of Crows spinoff tantalizes Shadow and Bone fans

Now that Shadow and Bone’s second season is in the rear-view mirror, fans of the Grishaverse are setting their sights on a new project. Hope is high for a Six of Crows spinoff, which would tell the story contained within Leigh Bardugo’s book of the same name. The stellar book, followed by Crooked Kingdom, follows the Crows through a risky, high-stakes heist, and back into Ketterdam where consequences await the team of thieves, liars, and spies.
