Latest Netflix News: It’s TUDUM time as Netflix’s first family bid farewell for good

All eyes on Netflix.

In a few short years, Netflix has managed to create real anticipation for its annual global fan event TUDUM and 2023 isn’t any different. With the help of more than a few familiar faces, the streamer revealed the date for this year’s livestream, as well as the location, and the many many stars set to make an appearance.

As new shows and sneak-peeks for upcoming seasons draw closer, a cherished fantasy show had the rare opportunity to wrap up at its own pace as The Umbrella Academy reached its final day of filming. Meanwhile, the streamer’s trusted bet on a genre that can best be described as “thirsty” continues to bear fruit.

So much TUDUM, we can barely keep up

Not even the two-hour duration of TUDUM is enough to shout out everything Netflix has in store for subscribers in the future, but they sure will try. The head-spinning trailer for the Global Fan Event needs a couple of rewatches to register all the exciting sneak peeks to come when all the brightest faces currently headlining Netflix’s catalog get together in Brazil on June 17. That’s right — this year’s edition of TUDUM will apparently be live-streamed live from Brazil, though it’s unclear whether the stars will be joining in in person or via video.

Elite, Stranger Things, Berlin, Never Have I Ever, Outer Banks, Heartstropper, FUBAR — these are just some of the series that will be featured at TUDUM, either through behind-the-scenes featurettes, messages from the cast, or even actual trailers and renewal announcements. The movie front is also well-represented by Chris Hemsworth and his Extraction 2, Gal Gadot with Heart of Stone, and Jamie Foxx’s They Cloned Tyrone.

Want more? The One Piece live-action is also getting some love, and so are Bridgerton, Cobra Kai, The Witcher, and Rebel Moon. See? We told you two hours was probably too short.

The SnyderVerse to Netflix train gains some steam

Could we expect Zack Snyder, Gal Gadot, and Henry Cavill to have a little DC reunion in Brazil? All three have projects in the line-up. Cavill will be promoting his last stretch on The Witcher, Gadot has her film Heart of Stone, and Snyder will be there to represent his show Rebel Moon.

The unrelenting fans of the so-called SnyderVerse — the original plans Zack Snyder had for his derailed tenure at DC — have been calling for Netflix to be its new home for a while now. The prospect of seeing the director and his two former stars together at an event for the streaming service has added some fuel to this hypothetical fire, and we can only salute the fans for never losing hope.

Bye, Bye, Hargreeves

There are few things as precious as a fantasy show being allowed to conclude on its own terms on Netflix, but thankfully some are still given the chance. As Warrior Nun continues to win awards despite its bitter cancelation, The Umbrella Academy celebrates its final day on set, with filming for season four wrapping up in Toronto, Canada.

The comic book show managed to remain unaffected by the ongoing writer’s strike and conclude production only ten days behind its initial schedule. The final season will only last for six episodes, instead of the usual ten, and will feature new cast members in Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, and David Cross. Justin H. Min, who plays the revived (sort of) Ben took to Twitter to express his gratitude for the show. “You’ll always be with me,” he wrote.

There is no release date for season four of The Umbrella Academy yet, but with production wrapping up this early in the year, we will likely be reunited with the Hargreeves by early 2024 at the latest.
