‘Love Island’ fans are over the moon about a woman of color finally being the center of attention

It's about damn time.

Love Island is now underway, and the drama is on. After the first couples were paired up by audience vote, a spanner was thrown into the works with the late arrival of Zachariah Noble. He was given the option of choosing an Islander to be paired up with, regardless of whether they were already paired up with another contestant. And, after chatting with everyone there, he made his choice; Catherina Agbaje.

This has made large portions of the Love Island fandom deeply happy, as one of the more depressing aspects of the show is that women of color tend to up end up sidelined. Here’s a taste of how it’s going down on social media:

It’s about damn time:

Can Catherine succeed where others have fallen?

We’re fully invested in where her story is going, too:

Let’s hope this starts a trend:

The Love Island casting team knows talent when they see it:

All that said, we’re insanely curious as to what the consequences of Zachariah picking Catherine will be. Andre clearly wasn’t at all happy about having his partner stolen away from him so early, to say nothing of the fact that she practically leapt into his arms after flirting with him all episode.

But this wasn’t the first drama-bomb this season and it won’t be the last. Making predictions at this early stage on who’s going to end up with who never works out well, and we suspect at least some of these Islanders will make some foolish mistakes as the days pass, the parties ramp up, and the tasks bring out the sides they’d rather keep concealed.

For now, though, Catherine is our Love Island season 10 MVP, and it’s going to take a lot to knock her off her throne.
