Although you can still catch Marvel’s most iconic heroes over on Disney XD, the House of Ideas have decided to expand their animation library by crossing over with the Japanese anime realm yet again with Future Avengers.

Not too much is known at the moment when it comes to the overall plot of the series, but we understand that it centers on a young boy named Makoto, whom Anime News Network describes as “a young boy who gains superpowers due to an evil gene manipulation experiment. Makoto and other youths join the Avengers as apprentices named ‘Future Avengers.'” Furthermore, expect the likes of Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor and Wasp to provide some expert tutelage.

If you were to ask me, that sounds like it’s taken some influence from Avengers Academy and may be worth checking out if you were a fan of the animated film Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow, although this project is obviously a very different beast entirely.

Let it be known that that Marvel found varying success earlier this decade in a joint venture with Madhouse that brought limited anime series such as Iron Man, Wolverine, X-Men and Blade to the now unfortunately defunct G4 network. Some of those were later expanded upon in direct-to-video movies Iron Man: Rise of Technovore and Avengers Confidential: Black Widow & Punisher, the latter of which I recommend checking out if you enjoy seeing Frank Castle cut loose.

If you’re able to get your hands on a copy, know that Bessatsu Coro Coro Comics Special’s April issue will feature a special tie-in manga for Future Avengers drawn by Teruaki Mizuno and will be available tomorrow. As for the TV series itself, it’s scheduled to debut on the Broadcast Satellite channel Dlife this summer.
