Marvel And Wonder Woman Scribe Team For New TV Show About Female Heroes

Marvel Studios have turned their cinematic universe into a well-oiled machine, but one thing that they're still working on is diversifying their band of heroes. Captain Marvel, the MCU's first female-led film, is on the way, but something else that would no doubt help matters is a movie featuring a female counterpart to the Avengers, uniting the many women warriors of the MCU.

Marvel Studios have turned their cinematic universe into a well-oiled machine, but one thing that they’re still working on is diversifying their band of heroes. Captain Marvel, the MCU’s first female-led film, is on the way, but something else that would no doubt help matters is a movie featuring a female counterpart to the Avengers, uniting the many women warriors of the MCU.

In fact, the idea was even pitched to Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige by Thor: Ragnarok‘s Tessa Thompson, and while we don’t have any confirmation on it happening just yet, there’s clearly an interest from the House of Ideas in putting more of the focus on its various female heroes in the near future.

Case in point: Deadline are reporting today that Marvel’s teaming with Wonder Woman scribe Allan Heinberg for an untitled hourlong drama set to air on ABC. Details on the project remain scarce, but the outlet’s telling us that the show’s about female characters with superpowers and will be “based on lesser-known Marvel characters.”

“In terms of Marvel, we have some things that we are in discussions with them right now that we are in development,” the network’s entertainment president Channing Dungey told Deadline last month. “I’m very excited about it.”

Unfortunately, not much else is known about what the studio has planned for us here, but there are certainly a wide range of fantastic female characters who’ve yet to make it to the big or small screen that Marvel could choose to base this new project on. And with the House of Ideas keeping quiet on what they’ve got in store, fans will surely begin to speculate on which heroes we may soon see.

On that note, while we wait to hear more on this intriguing new television show, be sure to head on down to the comments section and let us know what you think of Marvel‘s latest venture onto the small screen and which characters the new series may be based around.
